16 July 2003 Walk.
On Saturday August 9 walk the route of the now-rejected Arundel bypass and through the magnificent countryside. This will also serve to urge this area's inclusion in the National Park proposed boundary and declare our intention to fight any future resurrection of the scheme as a result of pressure from road lobby interests. Meet outside Ford railway station at 1.15pm (direct trains from Worthing, Brighton, London and elsewhere). May well end up in a pub for a celebration!
How to get there? and also see the area that must be included in the National Park. Click
What would the bypass have looked like from the air? Click
PS. Pass the news on.

9 July 2003 Camp to stay at Tortington Common despite Alistair Darlings announcement.
Whilst we are clearly delighted by
his announcement, sadly we've seen abandoned schemes re-appear some years
latter.
Yes we're in party mood, but this time our campaign will continue and the camp
will stay at Tortington Common as a reminder to this and successive Governments
not to do u-turns.

30 June 2003 HELP NEEDED NOW!.
Many thanks to all those who took the trouble to do the walk and show their support for those at the camp. As we saw they are dedicated and determined to stop this horrendous bypass scheme. For pictures of the walk follow this link:
Arundelwalk (may take some minutes to download, but worth it)
However we need many more to stay at the camp to defend the area. Make no mistake if this bypass is built not only will this unique piece of English countryside be lost under concrete the ancient Hill Fort at Cissbury Ring near Worthing will be next.
There's food and good company at the site, all that's missing is YOU!
DIRECTIONS.
Best is to get to Ford Rail station (on the Brighton / Chichester line). Walk north up Ford Road for about 500mtr and take the 1st left into Tortington Lane. Carry on up the lane past large white building (left) pass by several farm buildings (right) until the lane enters woodland.
At this point you will see a footpath (left) walk along it until you come to some planks laid across a ditch, stop here and look left, if you can't see anyone shout 'where are you'. For a map click: Route

27 June 2003 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT.
Will everyone who is intending either to stay at the camp or just do the walk, please remember that the area is extremely ecologically sensitive. Clearly we don't want to be branded eco vandals like the road builders. Likewise we don't want to get up the noses of the locals. We want their support, not their opposition.
PLEASE KEEP TO THE PATHS IF POSSIBLE.
BE FLUFFY

24 June 2003 NEWS FLASH.
Yes folks it's time to dig out those walking boots.
Following on from the
successful walk of the proposed Hastings bypass route (that scheme
was cancelled soon after the walk) there's another Sunday jaunt for your
enjoyment.
Sorry it's such short notice but events are moving at speed. Please gather
at 2pm outside the 'Red Lion' Pub, High Street Arundel this Sunday - yes
this Sunday - 29th June. We think the walk will be about 6 miles long and
take in notable sites such as the protestors camps, the 'Madonna shrine'
and of course the magnificent Woodland and countryside they propose to
flatten.
For a map of the bypass route go to Route
(takes 1min to download)
See you all there! and please let all other like minded folk know.
[South Coast Against Roadbuilding (SCAR) was formed in 1994, as an
umbrella group to local groups fighting the threat of a superhighway
along the south coast.
