South Coast Against Roadbuilding (SCAR)

Press Release

Residents Fight Plan for Cissbury Hill Fort Land.

Hundreds of residents braved storm force 10 winds and stinging horizontal rain Saturday 15 November 2009 to stop Worthing Borough Council selling of Downland it owns near to Cissbury Ring. See www.scso.co.uk

Said Ian Brooks for South Coast Against Roadbuilding (SCAR)

"We decided to join all the other environmental groups in this protest because of our real concern that pressure is growing for yet another attempt to build a bypass around Worthing - possibly through Cissbury - and this proposed sell-off might be the start".

It was clear for so many to brave one of the worst storms for many a year that there is a steely determination to stop this sell-off and anything that will damage such an important National Monument"

ENDS.

Notes for Editors

South Coast Against Roadbuilding (SCAR) was formed in 1994, as an umbrella group to local groups fighting the threat of more road building across the countryside. Many of those groups support non-violent direct action and were at Twyford Down, Newbury and the A30. It's also likely we will be at Bexhill if that bypass it nodded through.
