Council Decision Forcefully Condemned

Newly formed group Titnore Action Direct (TAD) and the latest group to join the ever growing SCAR network, have forcefully condemned Worthing Borough Councils Development Control Committee for agreeing development that will destroy the character of ancient Titnore Lane and Woodland(1).

Said a spokesperson for the group: "The names of those councillors will be remembered by future generation as the vandals of Durrington. The plans showing the destruction those worthless people have approved has to be seen to be believed. They took pleasure in agreeing the felling of the 150 year old Oaks just to straighten a bend in the lane to, as they put it, 'improve safety' never mind the lack of road craft of the idiots who ignore the speed limit, or the crafty highways agency people who slapped an A road classification on the lane in the hope it would become a western bypass for Worthing without any one noticing. Well we have and we're going to something about it.

TAD have announced today that they will be holding regular walks and cycle rides along Titnore Lane in an evidence gathering exercise in preparation for the demanded Public Inquiry(2). Coupled with this announcement TAD is keen to hear from walkers and cyclists experienced in traffic and ecology matters TAD can be contacted via click and inserting TAD in the comments box"

Editors notes.

(1) Titnore Lane to the West of Durrington, Worthing, West Sussex forms a link between the A27 and A259 trunk roads. Over the years and especially since the grade separated junction (flyover) was built and the lane incorrectly given A road status, traffic has exploded. It is now a highly trafficked rat run, that despite its winding English country lane appearance with an overhead canopy from the ancient woodland trees.

(2) The Public Inquiry will be necessary because of concerns raised by local residents fearful of the effect that over 1200 houses, together with shops, school, medical centre and Hypermarket - all approved by Worthing Borough Councils Development Control Committee - will have on the already creaking infrastructure.  Just one consequence of development is all the extra traffic that will be generated. It is for that reason it has been decided 'on safety grounds'  Titnore Lane has to be realigned, together with the addition of a roundabout and filter lane, though a section of ancient woodland.
